| Singer Calabria Foti
began performing professionally at the age of twelve. She is the
daughter of Richard and Gail Fote of Altamonte Springs. From a musical
family, she learned to sing, play guitar, electric bass and became a
classically trained violinist who, early in her career, served as
Associate Concertmaster of the Tampa Symphony and as Concertmaster for
the Brevard Symphony in Melbourne, Florida. She later moved to Los
Angeles where she remains active singing in the jazz club scene and
playing violin in the Hollywood recording studios. Of Calabria's
performance on her new CD, "When a Woman Loves a Man", Glen
Starkey of the New York Times writes, "...intoxicating in all the
right ways... Foti's voice is warm and sultry like a smoky jazz lounge,
cool and clear like a glacial pool... Look out Diana Krall, that's
Calabria Foti's breath on your neck!" Calabria's performance with the Altamonte Jazz Ensemble was a smash with the audience and was one of the high points of 2000. |
