| Don Ryer
was born in Baltimore, Maryland and studied at the Peabody Conservatory
of Music. He entered the Navy in 1968 and assigned to the staff of the
Navy School of Music as a trumpet player/vocalist with the Navy Show
Band. Don left the Navy in 1972 and attended Towson State University
studying under jazz great Hank Levy and touring with the Towson
State Jazz Ensemble. In 1975 Don entered the Army as featured trumpet/vocal soloist with the Army's official touring jazz ensemble, The Jazz Ambassadors. In 1986 he took the position as enlisted band leader of the Continental Army Band at Fort Monroe, Virginia. He formed and fronted the Continental Army Jazz Ensemble, leading them on numerous nationwide tours, until his retirement in early 1990. Upon retirement, Don came to Orlando and free-lanced there until his move in 1997 to Punta Gorda in southwest Florida. Don is currently a working free-lance musician with his own quartet, and is also playing shows, dinner theatres, and touring with various name bands. Some of these include:
