| Dave Sheffield has been playing both piano and trombone professionally for over thirty years and is considered "A Musician's Musician" playing on the cutting edge of today's modern jazz. Having started his musical studies at Jacksonville University in 1969, he has never stopped learning his instruments, always striving to play better. He has performed with numerous groups throughout the Florida area including Lee Caron's Carnival Club and Jimmy Papes and The American Way, which brought him into Orlando performing with Nick Russo's "Gabriel's Brass". His outstanding talent brought him to Disney World where he was featured with "Kids of the Kingdom" for seven years. After leaving Disney, Dave was a member of the Sam Rivers Rivbea Orchestra, performing at Lincoln Center and jazz festivals in the United States and Europe. He also founded "The Bottom Line" which performed locally in Orlando's finest jazz clubs. One of Dave's most unique talents is his ability to perform professionally on both trombone and piano. Dave joined the Altamonte Jazz Ensemble twenty years ago and was featured soloist playing along with guest artists Phil Woods, Bob McChesney and Bobby Shew...to name a few. Dave Sheffield was seeking musical challenges on piano and the opportunity arose for him to switch to piano with the jazz ensemble. This concert will feature Dave on a special arrangement written by the late Tom Mitchell especially for the AJE, a George Gershwin masterpiece, a medley from "Porgy and Bess". | After 17 years of
"gospel" and "pop" music experience with her family, Linda branched out into
"rhythm and blues" while traveling from Manhattan to Detroit to Los Angeles.
She has worked with such artists as Billy Henderson of "The Spinners", Billy
Davis, Jr. of "The Fifth Dimension", Betty LaVette of the Broadway hit "Bubblin'
Brown Sugar", Roz Ryan of the TV comedy hit "Amen" and the Broadway hit "Ain't
Misbehavin", H.B Barnum, musical director for Aretha Franklin, the vocal
group "Enchantment", and Chick Glenn, former drummer with the Mercer
Ellington Orchestra. By 1991, Linda began to branch out into "jazz and standards", appearing in such diverse rooms as "Dino's", Cocoa Beach, Fl., "Beacham's Blues & Jazz Club", Orlando, Fl., "Chef and Clef Club", Charleston, SC. and other fine restaurants and jazz spots throughout the southeast. Linda Cole, presently residing in Daytona Beach, Fl., also adds to her list of accomplishments, engagements at the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island, guest appearances for the Central Florida Jazz Society, opening act for David Benoit at "Light Up Orlando" - '91, guest appearances with the Altamonte Jazz Ensemble and is featured on its currently released CD "Blues for the Road Father". She also collaborated with Harold Blanchard on the release of her first CD. Linda has also made a guest appearance with the "Count Basie Orchestra" under the direction of Frank Foster. |
