LISA KELLY, a respected vocalist with an established jazz group. J.B.SCOTT, a respected trumpeter with an international performance background. They met in 1997 through the jazz program at the University of North Florida, and began a partnership after appearances together at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. They now perform throughout the U.S. and internationally with their groups, The Lisa Kelly & J.B. Scott Jazz 5tet (Mainstream Jazz), and the Swamp Dog Jazz Band (Dixieland), and as artists/clinicians with secondary, college, and professional jazz ensembles. Their many appearances have included The Jacksonville Jazz Festival, The Clearwater Jazz Holiday, The North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), The Pleasure Island Jazz Club, The Kravis Center, Duke's Jazz Bar (Switzerland), and numerous jazz clubs and jazz Societies. Clinic/Concerts have been with The Army Jazz Ambassadors, Sinclair Community College (Miss.), Meridian Community College (Ohio), Seminole Community College (Florida), and Central High School (Penna.), to name a few.
            The incentive for the pairing of these two artists is clear. Kelly's stage presence is one of sophisticated ease. Her voice has a smooth, clear tone, and a sultry, rich timbre reminiscent of Sarah Vaughn and Julie London, with the soulfulness of Nancy Wilson. Her instrumental approach to singing allows her the freedom to explore the music as a horn player, with a sensitive delivery of lyric that will captivate you.
            The delicacies of Kelly's voice are tastefully balanced by the swinging, sassy lines of trumpeter J.B. Scott, ala Freddie Hubbard meets Clark Terry meets Dizzy Gillespie. Scott skillfully produces a clean, singing trumpet tone, conveyed through warm, flowing, "Chet Baker'ish" melodies. His versatile style enables him to deliver anything from sensitive ballads to hard driving bebop with masterful technical agility and stylistic prowess. Scott often articulates his trumpet lines through engaging vocal scatting.
            Whether performing for an intimate jazz club, or for a huge outdoor jazz festival, Kelly & Scott are equally at home with their music and their audience. Always accompanied by first-rate instrumentalists, from a rhythm section to a big band, this duo delivers a timeless music with energetic swing! Dedicated to the perpetuation of the art form of jazz, Kelly & Scott frequently conduct vocal/trumpet, clinic/concerts for high school, college, and pro-level students. Their fun, informative and interactive "Jazz For Kids" concerts have reached thousands of elementary school children and have served as part of community outreach for major jazz festivals. In addition, this duo has directed several high profile jazz jam sessions including the "Jacksonville Jazz Jam" so successful that, in its fifth year, became one of the official events of The Jacksonville Jazz Festival. Kelly & Scott are regular guest artists/clinicians with jazz programs and serve as adjudicators for solo to ensemble contests.
